I thought the same thing specifically because it was on this subreddit, highly upvoted and lots of comments. If it were the other way around it'd have 200 comments, most of them deleted, and the comments locked.

I like Emma Goldman too. Any real anarchist is first and foremost a socialist as you describe but also with a strong value of freedom. This is why we disagree with certain aspects of Marx (you have to acknowledge the authoritarian aspects of Marx if you want to be taken seriously but people do not appropriately acknowledge the more libertarian aspects that form the basis of libertarian Marxism) but we agree on the fundamental issues.
Marx’s critique of capitalism is central to any socialist of any kind including anarchists. We also agree with the goal of a communist society, there are just disagreements on how to get there. A big part of a communist society is the abolition of hierarchies so that one has no master or servant — this is true but it’s pointless to bang on about being against hierarchy endlessly as many anarchists (even of the non-radlib variety) do. I agree this is really fucking irritating.
As somebody who probably falls somewhere within the anarchist spectrum (understanding political labels have no useful meaning in the US), other anarchists I've interacted with tend to have not thought deeply about what they believe. If anarchism stands for anything it should stand for every person getting a meaningful say in the things that affect their life.
I think understanding Marx's critique of capitalism and class-relations is critical for a proper anarchist perspective, because one cannot abolish unjust hierarchies without workers owning and running the places they work. An anarchist must be a socialist or it doesn't mean anything.
Another serious problem is anarchists not understanding the difference in government and the State, a critical distinction if your goal is an organized, free society.
Libertarian Marxists tend to be the group closest to where I think anarchists as a whole should be, though they sometimes err in the way other Marxists do, failing to recognize humans are not fit to rule one another, no matter how good their intentions.

It was literally an alliance of Leninists, Market socialists, And democratic socialists. It held people of all leftist varieties until stalin got into power after the revolution already ended.
