A lot of people buy into “colonialism was brutal but necessary to develop these countries.” It is an appallingly common view among the west. It’s just enough to seem like they disapprove of it, while justifying it, and the world order it produced, at the same time. None of these people, of course, will admit to how colonial policy actively destroyed the industry and development of colonized nations, and how former colonies still fight an uphill battle to compete with US/NATO companies in their own territory. One among countless examples of how US hegemony has co-opted “anti-imperialism” and “democracy” as public fronts for upholding the colonial order imposed by Europe before the US even finished colonizing its own continent. Pretend like a problem is fixed, don’t have to ACTUALLY fix it, reap the profits for playing the good cop to early modern Europe’s bad cop. Tale as old as time, or more accurately, as old as the Monroe doctrine.

Feminism is an egalitarian movement, so you can't be a feminist - or, to concede the rather more seedy aspects of feminist history, you can't be a *good* feminist - while seeking to deny equal rights to a marginalised group, especially when they're so focused on denying rights to women specifically. I would argue that in the modern day you literally can't be transphobic and a feminist any more than we should accept a committed racist as a feminist. Feminism is a movement and should absolutely seek to exclude people who work against its goals.
They're certainly not radical, which doesn't mean "extreme" or "committed". A radical activist is one who seeks to remove the fundamental causes of inequality, and certainly the transphobes who identify as feminists today don't do that. They are, rather, reactionary, which is fundamentally at odds with radical activism - And I don't just mean in terms of their political positions. They respond to things that offend them rather than seeking to abolish the root causes of inequality. To be a radical feminist would involve destroying the gender binary, not reinforcing it, for example. Smashing the patriarchy rather than using its own talking points to advance its own agenda.
I appreciate that there have been terfs associated with radical feminism in the past, and a few still exist now (Germaine Greer still fucking sucks, for example) but I would *still* argue that their trans exclusionary rhetoric is neither radical nor feminist.

From my perspective, they're not following their own rules, and this is the main complaint I have. When you go in and try to fix a problem, when you have no idea why that problem exists, you inevitably make it worse. If they try to ban people from using the internet just because someone said something that could be interpreted as "hurtful," they're just going to end up with a collection of bitter people banned from living, working, and taking part in society in a normal way, potentially making the divide even worse than it was.
